Joyous day! Yesterday, I discovered a way to prevent my twitter accounts from receiving a host of the obnoxious "wlecome" DMs (Direct Messages) that people send out -- at least those sent out by SocialOomph and TweetLater.
SocialOomph is a really great service for managing Twitter, but people are using it to send tons of DMs. Kudos to SocialOomph for taking the initiative to help block their own product!
And you won't know which people are using this mechanism, so just take this easy precaution.
I'll let their tweets tell you what to do:
SocialOomph Opt-Out
- Follow a few simple steps to opt-out if you never again want to receive automated welcome messages sent by @tweetlater: http://is.gd/j0fF
- Please read and follow the simple opt-out instructions here: http://is.gd/j0fF. Simply following @OptMeOut won't opt you out.
- This opt-out is effective only for automated DMs from TweetLater. U will still receive DMs from other bots. We can't block all auto DMs.
- Process to opt-out: 1) Follow me (@OptMeOut), 2) Wait for follow back, 3) Send me a DM, 4) Unfollow me. Must be done in that order.
- SocialOomph.com has followed you. Please send a DM back to @OptMeOut. That will complete the opt-out process. http://bit.ly/MnNGX
- Thank you from SocialOomph.com's opt-out service. Your opt-out has been recorded. You won't receive further auto DMs. http://bit.ly/MnNGX
My life on Twitter just got a whole lot quieter.
