Søren Peterson Produces a Perfect Email Signature

by Ruth Sylte · 1 comment

Berea College 03Kudos to Søren Peterson, formerly of Berea College in Kentucky and now at University of Maryland, for having what I consider one of the one of the most international, perfect -- and globally accessible  -- email signatures out there.

Here's Sørens initial signature:

-------------
(Mr) Søren M Peterson
Education Abroad Advisor
Center for International Education
Berea College | 101 Chestnut Street, CPO 2173 | Berea, Kentucky 40404 USA
T: +1.859.985.3924 | F: +1.859.985.3913 | ude.aerebnull@nosretep_neros | http://www.berea.edu/cie/
-----------

UPDATE - 11 October 2011

Søren recently changed jobs and sent in his new signature for comparison:

-----------
(Mr) Søren M Peterson
Coordinator of Short-Term Programs
Education Abroad
University of Maryland
1125 Holzapfel Hall
College Park, Maryland 20742 USA

T: +1.301.405.7158 | F: +1.301.314.9135 | ude.dmunull@32pms | http://www.umd.edu/studyabroad/
-----------

Once again, Søren nails it! Yet even "perfect" can be improved!

  • I would love to see an accurate Zip+4 code included instead of the standard five digit ZIPcode.
  • Søren could also capitalize his last name as PETERSON in order emphasize it as his family name for those from cultures who traditionally write their names with family names first. (Thanks, Erin Vang, for that tip!)
  • I will also observe that I believe the days of the Fax number are quickly coming to a close and international education professionals may want to start including addresses (or icons with links) to social media channels.

Thank you, Søren! That makes TWO Global TuneUp™ gold stars for you!

Thanks for the second gold star! I would love to use ZIP+4, but UMD has a unique ZIP code and the USPS does not report the +4 part (I am sure that they exist somewhere, but the campus mail does not advertise them that I have seen). And about that social media stuff … been meaning to add it, and this might just be the incentive to do so! :-)
