What is an RSS Feed?

by Ruth Sylte · 2 comments

Last week at the 2008 NAFSA: Association of International Educators?conference, it became very apparent that many NAFSAns do not know what an RSS Feed is -- much less what it does.

As many of you know, I see no point in reinventing the wheel. There's a company called CommonCraft which has been making wonderful simple CommonCraft YouTube videos explaining lots of things, including technology and social media tools.

I regularly recommend their videos and have created a playlist of CommonCraft videos about social media and social media tools that I think will be helpful to international educators. Check them out!

So, today's Tech Tool is a brief lesson about RSS feeds and how they function.

Ready to start using RSS feeds? Then you might want to start by subscribing to the Manitou Heights RSS feed -- that is, the RSS feed of this blog. How? Click here!

Do you have any favorite RSS feeds to recommend to international educators?

It will be really amazing when RSS becomes mainstream.

I personally believe education needs to catch up with all of the stuff that happens on the internet. Most people have no clue what is really out there. I know I didn’t.

But like I have talked about before…Education is still living in the stone ages…and you are lucky to have an E-Commerce class that teaches you maybe 10% of what is REALLY going on with the web.

I tried to look at this video, but it tells me the video is no longer available. I’ve been getting this on everything that is from YouTube…I think they’re not allowing anyone outside the US to access the site anymore.
