This week - not just on Wednesday, January 18th - I am choosing to stand with others against the SOPA / PIPA bills that are before the U.S. Congress that could have negative consequences for free speech and free exchange of ideas and information. If Google will truly listen to the voice of the people, they will realized that internet freedom is being threatened by crazy proposed laws like the SOPA. Google must think on how internet freedom can flourished and be not affected by government regulations. If Google will heed the voice of the people, the faith and loyalty will always be awarded to Google.
Both SOPA and PIPA were just bad proposals. But, ACTA is far worse and is off many people\'s radar.
I can see that you are are genuinely passionate about this! I am trying to build my own website and you\'ve helped me with some great information.
Thanks for sharing this post with us.
I don\'t understand why they need to pass SOP/PIPA, seeing as megavideo/megaupload was taken down after the bill was shelved. If they can take that site down without the bill, then whats the point haha? Also, like Cynthia said, ACTA is far worse, affecting multiple countries, yet less people seem to be aware of it\'s existence.
STOP ACTA!
I am obviously against SOPA as well, but that infographic had me smiling because some of those graphs are obviously made to scare the living daylights out of people. Not very factual, but speculation of the end of internet as we know it.
If you thought SOPA was bad, just wait Until you meet ACTA.
ACTA had move forward in Europe despite protests.
Well first I thought that it was fine, but when Wikipedia blacked out their site for one day, I realized that its not good at all..
I generally hate AFLA (All Four Letter Acronyms). It is especially annoying that SOPA and ACTA are being driven by deep pocket lobbyists. It all comes down to the definition of \"piracy\" and \"anti-counterfeiting\". In the real world, locks are only for honest people. They slow down and hinder for those that honor them and don\'t stop the real crooks. SOPA and ACTA are locks on the internet. These laws/treaties will only slow down and hinder honest people that honor them and will not stop the real crooks.
ACTA haven\'t moved anywhere. Due to massive critics it is being now revised by European Union - and this can take up to two years.
You are doing a great job by raising awareness of PIPA/SOPA in common public.Any measures which can affect our free expression should get opposed. Great initiatives.
Sopa is coming back, former senator Dudd,or what was his name confirmed yesterday that they are looking into bringing it back \"to please both silicon valley and the entertainment industry\" .
He is now CEO of the MPAA,jesus christ
ACTA are definitely bad news! Thank you for raising awareness regarding PIPA/SOPA, I don\'t think many people are aware of it so this has been really refreshing to read! Thank you for sharing!!
Not only will SOPA be a hindrance to free speech in the virtual world, it will also in effect lessen the creative genius born out of the Internet. We should learn from the negative effects that its counterpart in Europe has already done. Are we going to risk that in America? We have to get our acts together to stop this at all cost.
It all comes down to the definition of “piracy” and “anti-counterfeiting”. In the real world, locks are only for honest people. They slow down and hinder for those that honor them and don’t stop the real crooks. SOPA and ACTA are locks on the internet.
