My Internet Life / Mitt liv på internettet

Before the Internet got so big and unfriendlly, I used to enjoy hanging out on newsgroups such as soc.culture.nordic, alt.fan.mike-jittlov and soc.genealogy.nordic. The guys on soc.culture.nordic made me their official rødhårede gudinne (net.goddess) and I continue in this role today on s.c.n and the smaller, Norwegian subgroup Nisjer og Dverger. I've lost count of my listserv subscriptions, but I've been List Manager of more than my fair share. I used to have a sys admin, now I am one - in my own home, no less! I often wish my computer were more reminiscent of NRK in Norway, perhaps providing me with an announcer bidding me "Good Night!" or a gentle melody from my terminal when it's time to quit for the day ...

My Artistic Life / Mitt kunstneriske liv

When not in the office or on the Internet, I enjoy music and dance in order to maintain my sanity. As HjerteDans, I perform and teach traditional Norwegian dance and music with my dear friend, Mikkel Thompson. I also teach classes at the Northfield Arts Guild. It's not uncommon to find me singing på norsk, svensk eller finsk (in Norwegian, Swedish or Finnish) at a local jam session, with a local Scandinavian dance band or performing classical music.

Domestication and tranquility usually surround me (when I'm not on the road, that is...).

A Few of My Favorite Things... / Noen av mine favoritt-ting...

• Heritage: My Norwegian heritage is important to me. I'm a life member of the Hardanger Fiddle Association of America and the Norwegian-American Historical Association. I've been a Sons of Norway member since 1991 and have been working on my genealogy since 1988.
• Education: I work in the field of higher education public relations. For years, I also worked in international educational exchange. It runs in the family. I'm very proud of the Sylte school in Norway, which was founded and supported by my grandfather and his brothers after they emigrated to the USA.
• Hobbies: Reading, travel, music, chocolate... (in any combination and not necessarily in that order!) I'm not really into sports but I do keep track of my favorite Norwegian football (soccer) team Molde Fotballklubben. Take a look at the pages for Tornekrattet, the MFK supporter's club.
• Vacations: I love exploring new places and meeting new people. My list of places to discover is way long! My favorite vacations? In February 1995, I spent two weeks dancing and skiing in the mountains of Telemark. Later that summer, I spent six weeks traveling the country and had a week-long camping vacation on the back of my friend Steinar's "Viffer" (motorcycle). Totally wonderful!

There are probably a great many other things about me which might surprise you, but a net.goddess has to keep some sense of mystery...
